The Brain

The brain, a part of the central nervous system, is an organ that is made of a soft, convoluted mass of gray and white matter. It controls and coordinates a person's mental and physical actions.

The brain weighs about 3 pounds and it is estimated that the brain contains about 100 billion neurons or nerve cells. It is estimated that each neuron has between 1,000 and 10,000 synapses or junctions.
